Google Cloud Print ended in 2020/2021. Our planned successor combines modern outbound-only agent connections, managed printer identities, tenant isolation and deliberate job delivery.
The proposed feature catalog will let users opt into trusted extensions such as label rendering, peripherals, device profiles, and cloud connectivity. No automatic cloud enrollment.
See planned module safety rules →Future updates: signed packages, version compatibility, consent and rollback.
Use documented client APIs and browser integration tooling to connect approved web applications to a local DirectSpool agent.
SDKs/connectors are under release review. Public repository links will be added after licensing and security audits.
// Proposed developer experience
const printer = await directspool.connect({
origin: "your-approved-app"
});
await printer.printReceipt({
device: "counter-1",
template: "receipt-58mm",
items: [/* ... */]
});DirectSpool follows a hybrid model: a free Community agent, genuinely open-source SDKs and connectors, and optional paid Business Cloud services. Sponsorship will support public developer tooling, documentation and compatibility testing.
